La Gravera<\/h1>\n

During the sand extractions in the proximity of the Playa Serena Resort, when they reached aquifer, the water that appeared was only slightly saline, revealing the area to be a discharge point. Thus, one of the lagoons that formed at that time was quickly colonized by freshwater vegetation: reeds and rushes. In addition, one of the lagoons was surrounded by a belt of tamarisk trees, providing it with a special isolation and making it particularly attractive to birds.<\/p>\n

The lagoons have been part of the Punta Entinas Sabinar Protected Natural Reserve since its declaration and have also been included in the Inventory of Wetlands of Andalusia.<\/p>\n

The rains that feed the aquifer on which it is located, make it overflow during the winter, flooding the surrounding area, but this contribution also ensures a sufficiently large body of water during the summer for different diving birds to feed in.<\/p>\n

Since its creation, the gravel pit has become one of the most visited places by the inhabitants of Roquetas, thanks to its serenity and the confidence of the coots and ducks, which tolerate the presence of humans.<\/p>\n
